Set in the desert-weird wilds of Joshua Tree, California, Serpentine Pink, is a distinctively, visceral and surreal independent, female-centric, ‘Mad Max’-resonant film that digs into the various and rigorous ways a heart heals from trauma. Our female production delivers a diverse and innovative arthouse film, and is delighted to receive the acclaimed ReFrame stamp.
Serpentine Pink is inspired by France’s Grand Guignol style of horror theater, and utilizes a lyrical language both visual and verbal to capture the strange poetry of the Mojave desert and soundscape. It follows a reclusive biker woman and her John Wayne-obsessed exotic dancer lover’s disturbing fallout after an acid attack. An ethereal psychic and her aspiring shaman companion converge with supernatural forces to confront and then heal the women’s – as well as their own – deep-rooted, personal pain. This is a pain that comes from trying to break the cycle of possessive love.
The full team is excited to attend, including Director Vivian Sorenson, playwright and screenwriter Megan Breen, Cinematographer Elizabeth Hodgman Hanks, Producer Ron Hanks and Executive Producer Larissa D’Andrea, with O-Lan Jones, Sabina Zúñiga Varela, Kristin Condon, Michael Harris, Joy Nash, and Gregory Cruz as talent.
VALUES: Films addressing trauma in same sex relationships are rare, particularly between women. Underrepresented stories are critical in creating a deeper understanding of the unique issues people and communities face.
- The cast and crew are more than 50% women.
- The management team also experimented with solar on set, implemented recycling and leveraging other innovative ‘green’ technologies.
- We are developing an educational campaign to share the lessons we’ve learned with the broader independent filmmaking community to encourage others to continue to take the same important risks – particularly in support of social impact.
STATUS: We are currently seeking distribution partners.
